When this scan can help
These are some of the most common reasons for booking, though you don’t need a symptom to be seen. If any of these feel familiar, or you would simply like reassurance, you are in the right place.
A lump or bump on the face
Cheek, jaw, temple or forehead: if you can feel it, ultrasound can usually see what it is.
A swelling that comes and goes
Swelling that changes with eating points to the salivary glands; swelling with tenderness suggests inflammation.
A lump after dermal filler
Nodules, lumps or asymmetry after cosmetic filler can be mapped so the treating clinician knows exactly where the product sits.
A swollen gland in front of the ear
The parotid gland and the lymph nodes beside it are checked together.
A lump on the jawline or under the chin
Lymph nodes, cysts and the submandibular gland are the usual explanations, each with a different appearance.
Something that has changed
A lump that is growing, hardening or starting to hurt deserves a prompt look.
Unsure which scan is right for you? Call 0203 904 4441 and a clinician will happily advise before you book.
What this scan can find
Your head and neck imaging specialist will guide you through the findings on screen, after their clinical assessment.
Cysts and lipomas
Fluid-filled cysts and soft fatty lumps, the commonest facial lumps, confirmed in minutes.
Swollen lymph nodes
The pre-auricular, cheek and jawline nodes, with the features that separate reactive from concerning.
Salivary gland lumps and stones
Parotid and submandibular gland lumps, stones and duct dilatation.
Dermal filler nodules
Filler deposits, granulomas and their relation to vessels, mapped for the clinician treating you.
Vascular lesions
Haemangiomas and venous malformations, with their blood flow shown on Doppler.
What it cannot tell you
Ultrasound characterises a lump but cannot give a tissue diagnosis. Where that is needed, an ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration or a referral recommendation follows.
Specialist-led scanning
Your private Face Ultrasound is performed by a head and neck imaging specialist doctor, from leading London hospitals. You’ll have the lump scanned and explained to you in real time, and every appointment ends with a defined next step, agreed with you before you go.

0203 904 4441What happens during the scan
Your scan begins with a short conversation about the lump: where it is, how long it has been there, whether it has changed, and any cosmetic treatment in the area. Point to it, and the specialist scans exactly there.
A little warm gel and a small high-frequency probe examine the lump and the tissue around it, from the skin down to the muscle and bone. It is painless and radiation-free.
The specialist shows you the lump, measures it, tells you whether it is solid, fluid-filled, a lymph node or filler, and explains in plain English what it most likely is.
Before you leave, the findings and a next step are agreed: reassurance, a review scan, a fine needle aspiration, or a referral recommendation with your images. Your report is on your secure portal the same day.

A painless scan of a lump, swelling or soft-tissue change on the face, cheek or jaw. A high-frequency probe shows what the lump is made of, how deep it sits and how much blood flows through it, so most facial lumps are explained in a single visit.
Most facial lumps are harmless. The most common are:
Ultrasound tells these apart in minutes.
Yes. Hyaluronic acid and other fillers have recognisable appearances on ultrasound. The scan maps where the product sits, whether a nodule is filler, a granuloma or something else, and its relation to blood vessels, which helps the clinician treating you plan the next step.
Most facial lumps are cysts, lipomas or reactive lymph nodes and are harmless. Ultrasound shows the features that matter; the small number that need a closer look are flagged on the day and a fine needle aspiration or referral recommendation is arranged.
No. The probe rests gently on the skin with warm gel. If the lump is tender, the specialist presses carefully. The scan takes around fifteen to twenty minutes.
No. You can book directly with us online or by phone. If your GP, dentist or cosmetic clinician has asked for the scan, bring their note and we will address the report to them.
At Harley Street Ultrasound a private face ultrasound costs £280, all fees inclusive: the scan, the specialist’s time, your written report and images.
Your specialist tells you in the room, in plain English, and explains exactly what it means. You will never be sent home to wait for a letter. Most findings are benign and need nothing more than a sensible review date.
Anything that does need attention gets a clear, objective recommendation in your report: monitor, test further, or refer. Follow-up tests can usually be arranged at 99 Harley Street, often the same week, and those results are also explained to you personally.
No. Harley Street Ultrasound is a private clinic, so you can book a face ultrasound in London directly online or by phone. No GP letter, no waiting list, and same-day or next-day appointments are usually available. If you are searching for a face ultrasound near me from anywhere in central London, we are at 99 Harley Street, a short walk from Regent’s Park and Oxford Circus stations.
If you are wondering how much a private face ultrasound costs, the answer is published before you book: £280, all fees inclusive: the examination, the specialist’s time, your written report and your images. Insured patients should bring a referral or authorisation number if their policy requires one.
Usually the same day: a Harley Street face ultrasound comes with same-day results as standard, and you will already know the findings, because they are explained to you on screen during the appointment.
The written report is prepared by the specialist team and published to your secure patient portal together with your images, with measurements and a clear recommendation, ready to share with your GP or specialist.
Nothing special: there is no aftercare needed. You can eat, drive and go back to work straight away. Diagnostic ultrasound at these intensities has no confirmed adverse effects, which is why it can be repeated safely for monitoring. If your results suggest a next step, your specialist explains it before you leave.
Yes: completely. Coming to us privately never affects your NHS care. Our job is to get you answers quickly; if anything needs urgent attention, your specialist writes to your NHS GP recommending an urgent appointment, so you re-enter the NHS pathway with a diagnosis already in hand rather than joining the queue from the start.
