How to get here from Covent Garden

Directions to 99 Harley Street, like we’d say them on the phone

Covent Garden to Harley Street is nearer than the map implies: one long diagonal through Soho on foot, or ten minutes in a cab up Regent Street’s hinterland.

On foot, treat it as two halves: the Piazza to Soho Square via Long Acre and across Charing Cross Road (ten minutes of crowd), then the quiet half, Rathbone Place, Mortimer Street, Cavendish Square, and up Harley Street to the Weymouth Street corner. Allow closer to forty in all.

WC2’s bodies work hard: theatre and dance careers around the Royal Opera House and the studios, kitchens on standing shifts, agencies hunched at screens. Our musculoskeletal consultants spend their hospital weeks on exactly those ankles, knees, shoulders and wrists, and scan them dynamically, moving, the way they actually hurt.

The performance schedule is respected too: 8am scans before rehearsal, matinee-gap appointments, and same-day results so a decision about tonight’s show is made on evidence, not guesswork.

01

By taxi: about 10 minutes

From the Piazza or Long Acre, up through Soho and across Oxford Street. Ask for 99 Harley Street at the Weymouth Street corner; the clinic is inside the Congestion Charge zone.

02

On foot: about 37 minutes

Long Acre west, across Charing Cross Road to Soho Square, then Rathbone Place, Mortimer Street, Cavendish Square and up Harley Street. Crowded for ten minutes, calm for fifteen.

03

By Tube: about 20 minutes door to door

Piccadilly line one stop to Leicester Square, Northern to Goodge Street, then the fifteen-minute walk, or simpler: any line to Oxford Circus and eleven minutes on foot.

04

From the Royal Opera House or the studios, plan the gap

A matinee-to-evening gap fits a scan comfortably: cab both ways, twenty minutes on the couch, findings explained before the half.

Working to a curtain time? Say so when you book on 0203 904 4441, reception schedules around performances better than most stage managers.

Why Covent Garden comes to us

Working bodies, seen properly

Covent Garden’s injuries are occupational and its schedules are theatrical, neither fits a standard clinic. Ours flexes: musculoskeletal consultants who understand performance careers, dynamic scanning that reproduces the movement that hurts, and a diary built around shows, services and shoots.

Dance and stage medicine’s bread and butter

Ankles, knees, hips and shoulders scanned as they move, with consultants whose NHS weeks are spent at the RNOH and King’s on exactly these injuries.

Kitchen and floor bodies too

Standing-shift knees, lifting shoulders, wrist and elbow overuse, assessed honestly, including when the answer is rest, not needles.

Curtain-time scheduling

8am, matinee gaps, and same-day answers, so decisions about tonight are made on evidence by mid-afternoon.

Questions, answered

Questions from Covent Garden, answered

Anything else? Call 0203 904 4441, a real person answers, and a clinician can call you back.

Where is the clinic, and how far from Covent Garden?

99 Harley Street, W1G 6AQ: at the Weymouth Street corner in the Harley Street medical district. From the Piazza it is about ten minutes by taxi, about 37 on foot across Soho, or roughly twenty via any Tube line into Oxford Circus and an eleven-minute walk.

The full routes with honest minutes are above, next to the live map.

Can I fit a scan around performances?

Yes: it is a WC2 speciality. The matinee-to-evening gap fits comfortably: cab up, twenty minutes on the couch, findings explained, cab back before the half. The 8am slots catch company class; Saturdays catch dark days.

Tell reception your curtain time and they schedule to it, with margin.

I’m a dancer / performer: will the scan understand my job?

That is the point of consultant-led MSK scanning: the radiologists here spend their NHS weeks at the RNOH and King’s on performing and sporting bodies, scan joints dynamically through the movement that hurts, and write reports that distinguish “career-threatening” from “manageable with load changes”.

Bring the movement: demonstrating the jump or lift that triggers it makes the scan better.

Do I need a GP referral?

No: book directly, online or by phone. Company physios and osteopaths often send performers to us informally; their notes are welcome but not required.

Where a scan clinically needs a conversation first, it happens by phone inside the same booking.

Can I be seen the same day?

Often, yes: same-day and next-day slots run across most scan types on weekdays, and “before tonight’s show” is a deadline we take seriously.

Call 0203 904 4441 as early as you can; morning calls get afternoon couches.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 6pm. For theatre schedules that means before class, between shows, or on the dark day; for kitchens, before prep or after lunch service.

The 8am and evening ends of the day are quietest in the building.

Which Tube route is best from WC2?

Simplest: anything to Oxford Circus: Victoria, Central or Bakerloo: then eleven minutes on foot up through Cavendish Square. From Covent Garden station itself, the Piccadilly-to-walk options all take about twenty minutes door to door.

Honestly, from the Piazza a cab wins whenever time is the currency.

Is it discreet? Casting directors don’t need to know.

Completely. Nothing is shared with anyone: employer, company, agent, GP: without your written consent. The building is an unmarked townhouse, the report goes to your portal alone, and how you use it is your business.

Performers manage injuries privately here every week; you would not be the exception.

Do you have a clinic in Covent Garden itself?

No: one clinic, at 99 Harley Street. WC2 does theatres better than anywhere on earth; diagnostic imaging it leaves to the medical district ten minutes north, and we would rather be excellent at one address than average at two.

This page exists to show how short that journey really is.

What if the scan says I shouldn’t perform tonight?

Then you will know why, precisely, which structure, how bad, and what performing on it risks, in writing, in time to make the call properly with your company. Just as often, the scan clears you: “sore but safe” is a diagnosis too, and a valuable one.

Either way the decision gets made on evidence rather than adrenaline.

How quickly do results come?

Findings are explained on the couch, and the written consultant report is on your secure portal the same day, before the evening show, if that is the deadline.

Guided injections and follow-ups, where needed, can usually be booked before you leave.

How much does a scan cost?

One fixed price per scan, published before you book: from £160, with most diagnostic ultrasounds £250–£350 including the consultant report. No surprises on the day.

Insurers are welcome: bring your authorisation number, and self-paying is exactly as simple as it sounds.

Can I walk in without an appointment?

We ask you to book first, even if that is a phone call from Covent Garden ten minutes before you set off: it means a consultant and a room are ready for you rather than a wait. Same-day slots are released through the morning, so call 0203 904 4441, tell us what you need, and reception will usually find you a time that day.

Who performs the ultrasound?

A consultant radiologist, a doctor who specialises in imaging, or a senior specialist sonographer for pregnancy and gynaecological scans, never a trainee. The person holding the probe explains what they see as they scan, so you leave Covent Garden-bound already knowing the findings, and the written report is theirs too.

Which scans can I book near Covent Garden?

Every scan on this website is at 99 Harley Street, so from Covent Garden you have one address for pregnancy scans, breast ultrasound and the breast clinic, pelvic and gynaecological scans, thyroid and neck scans, abdominal and kidney scans, joint and sports injury scans, ultrasound-guided injections, and children’s scans. Each has one page and one fixed price; use the search at the top of the page or call us.

How long is the wait for a private ultrasound compared with the NHS?

NHS waits for a routine ultrasound vary from a few weeks to several months depending on the hospital and the urgency your GP assigns. Here, same-day and next-day appointments are usually available, the findings are explained before you leave, and the report is on your portal the same day. From Covent Garden that means a worry can be answered the day you decide to act on it.
