What ultrasound machines does Harley Street Ultrasound Group use?
Harley Street Ultrasound Group uses two Samsung S85 Prestige systems and one GE Voluson E10 at 99 Harley Street, London. The Samsung systems cover general, musculoskeletal, breast, thyroid and vascular scanning. The Voluson E10 is used mainly for women's health, pregnancy and gynaecology.
Which ultrasound probes do you have?
On our Samsung S85 Prestige systems we hold the CA1-7A, CA3-10A, CV1-8A, LA2-14A, LM2-18, LA3-22A1 and EV2-10A probes. On our GE Voluson E10 we hold the C1-6-D, RM7 C, RIC5-9-D, ML6-15-D, 9L and L8-18i probes. Together they cover curved, linear, internal and 3D/4D examinations.
Do you offer elastography?
Yes. Our Samsung S85 Prestige systems include elastography, which measures how firm or soft a tissue is. It gives your radiologist extra information when assessing areas such as the breast, thyroid and liver, and can help clarify whether a finding is likely to be harmless.
What is MVI (Micro Vascular Imaging)?
MVI is an ultrasound technique on our Samsung S85 Prestige that shows very small, slow blood vessels that standard Doppler can miss. It needs no injection or contrast dye. It helps radiologists assess the blood supply of lumps, nodules, inflammation and tendon problems.
What is REMS and how does it assess bone health?
REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) is an ultrasound-based method for assessing bone health. Our Echolight system analyses signals returned from the bone to estimate bone density at the spine and hip, and to report a Fragility Score reflecting bone quality. It uses no ionising radiation.
Is REMS the same as a DXA scan?
No. DXA uses low-dose X-rays and is the long-established standard for measuring bone density. REMS uses ultrasound instead, so there is no radiation, and it also reports information about bone structure. Your radiologist can advise which is more appropriate for you.
Is ultrasound safe?
Ultrasound uses sound waves rather than ionising radiation and is widely regarded as a safe imaging method, including during pregnancy when performed by trained professionals. Elastography, MVI and REMS are also ultrasound-based and do not add radiation.
Can you share my scan with my GP or hospital?
Yes. We use the IEP portal to securely share and receive images with NHS and private hospitals, and Biotronics PACS to store images securely so that past scans can be compared. This avoids the need for you to carry discs or printed reports.
Do I need to prepare for my scan?
Preparation depends on the type of scan. Some examinations need a full or empty bladder or a period of fasting, while others need none. We will confirm any preparation when you book.
Where are you based?
We are at 99 Harley Street, London W1G 6AQ, and are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
