Why refer to us

Welcoming clinicians to Harley Street Ultrasound

A specialist opinion for your patient, quickly, and a clinician on the other end of the phone for you.

01

An expert opinion, not just images

Breast, general, musculoskeletal, gynaecological and male-health ultrasound is performed by consultant radiologists who scan and report themselves. Pregnancy scans are performed by senior specialist sonographers.

02

We talk to you about the result

We can discuss your patients results with you and can also offer suggestions for the next step in their management plans.

03

Seen quickly

Same-day and next-day appointments are usually available, including early mornings and evenings, so your patient is not added to a waiting list.

04

The next step, in the same building

Ultrasound-guided biopsy, aspiration and injections are performed here, and MRI or CT is arranged through our partners at UCLH Private Healthcare and Queen Square Private Imaging.

05

Registered and regulated

The practice is fully registered and regulated with the Care Quality Commission, General Medical Council, Royal College of Surgeons and The Royal College of Radiologists.

Questions, answered

Questions from referrers

Anything else? Call 0203 904 4441, a real person answers, and a clinician can call you back.

Who can refer a patient?

Any registered clinician: GPs, hospital consultants, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, midwives and nurses. Please include your registration number so we can send the report to you securely.

What should the referral include?

The scan you are asking for and the clinical question you want answered. Relevant history, earlier imaging and any medication that matters (blood thinners before a guided procedure, for example) help the specialist answer it fully. If you are unsure which scan is right, describe the question and we will choose the examination with you.

How do I receive the report?

The written report is sent to you and to your patient, usually the same day. If a finding needs urgent attention we call you directly rather than wait for the report to reach you.

Can I speak to the clinician who reported the scan?

Yes. Call 0203 904 4441 and we will arrange a call with the reporting clinician to talk the findings through and agree the next step.

Do I need a GP referral for a private ultrasound?

No. You can self-refer and book directly with us online. Most ultrasound scans need no referral at all. If a particular examination does require a referral (some guided injections and procedures do), we tell you before you book and can arrange the referral for you. After your scan you receive a full written report you can share with your GP, consultant or physiotherapist.

Can I use my private medical insurance?

In most cases, yes. We work with the major private medical insurers, check your policy covers outpatient diagnostics and bring your authorisation number to your appointment. We are currently unable to accept AXA or Aviva; if you are insured with either, our fixed self-pay prices apply and we provide a detailed receipt you may be able to claim against.

What happens if the scan finds something?

You will not be left alone with a worrying report. Your clinician explains any finding face to face before you leave, and whatever needs to happen next, blood tests, an ultrasound-guided biopsy, an MRI or CT through our partners at UCLH Private Healthcare and Queen Square Private Imaging, or a referral to the right specialist. We arrange it from here, usually within days.
