Questions about pricing

How much does a private ultrasound scan cost?

Every service has a fixed, published price shown before you book. No consultation fee added on top, no on-the-day surprises. The price includes the examination, the specialist’s interpretation, your written report and portal access to your images. Most major private medical insurers are accepted; we currently cannot accept AXA or Aviva, and self-pay is always available.

Can I use my private medical insurance?

In most cases, yes. We work with the major private medical insurers, check your policy covers outpatient diagnostics and bring your authorisation number to your appointment. We are currently unable to accept AXA or Aviva; if you are insured with either, our fixed self-pay prices apply and we provide a detailed receipt you may be able to claim against.

Do I need a GP referral for a private ultrasound?

No. You can self-refer and book directly with us online. Most ultrasound scans need no referral at all. If a particular examination does require a referral (some guided injections and procedures do), we tell you before you book and can arrange the referral for you. After your scan you receive a full written report you can share with your GP, consultant or physiotherapist.

Why do some prices show “from”?

Most scans have one fixed price, shown plain. A few, guided injections and second opinions, have more than one price depending on which joint or how many studies you need: there we show the lowest price here and the full breakdown on that service’s own page.

What if I need more than one scan, or a second opinion on an existing one?

Book each one separately: every service on this list has its own fixed price. If you are not sure which scan answers your question, or you already have images from elsewhere and want them reviewed, call us and a clinician will advise before you pay for anything.

What happens if the scan finds something?

You will not be left alone with a worrying report. Your clinician explains any finding face to face before you leave, and whatever needs to happen next, blood tests, an ultrasound-guided biopsy, an MRI or CT through our partners at UCLH Private Healthcare and Queen Square Private Imaging, or a referral to the right specialist. We arrange it from here, usually within days.
