Who it’s for
Most people book because they have noticed a change in their breast or have breast pain they want looked at by a breast specialist. Others come to talk through their family history or a screening result, or to get a second opinion. You see a consultant breast surgeon one to one, with no GP referral.
You’ve found a lump or noticed a change
A lump, thickening, nipple change, discharge or skin change. Your surgeon examines you in private and explains what they find and what should happen next.
You have breast pain
Breast pain is the most common breast symptom and is rarely a sign of cancer, but it can affect daily life. Your surgeon examines you, explains the likely cause and talks through ways to manage it.
Breast or ovarian cancer runs in your family
Your surgeon reviews your history, explains what it means for your own risk and advises what checks are right for you, and how often.
You’ve had a screening recall or result you want explained
Bring your letter or report. Your surgeon talks through what it really says and what, if anything, you need to do.
You’re not sure which test you need
Ultrasound, mammogram or MRI: which, when and how often depends on your age, history and symptoms. Your surgeon recommends the right one for you.
You’d like a second opinion
Another consultant’s examination and honest view of your symptoms, results or treatment plan.
Not sure whether to book a consultation or the one-stop breast clinic? See the comparison below, or call 0203 904 4441 and a clinician will advise before you book.
What happens on the day
One appointment, one to one with your breast surgeon, in four steps. Allow 30 minutes.
Your consultation begins with a conversation, not a form: your symptoms, periods or menopause, hormone treatment, previous screening or scans, and your family history, so your personal risk is properly understood.
In private, with a gown and a chaperone offered, your surgeon examines both breasts and the lymph nodes in your armpits and neck. They explain what they are feeling for as they go, and you can ask them to pause at any time.
If the examination or your history means imaging would help, an ultrasound with a consultant breast radiology doctor can often be arranged the same day, priced and agreed with you first. If you need a mammogram, it can often be arranged the same day at King Edward VII’s Hospital.
Samsung S85 Prestige: hospital-grade imaging
Before you leave, your surgeon explains the findings and agrees a clear next step with you: reassurance, a review date, imaging, a biopsy or onward care. A written summary is on your secure portal, usually the same day, ready to share with your GP.

What it covers
The aim is to understand your symptom or worry, examine you properly, and send you away with a clear explanation and a plan.
An explanation of your symptom
Breast pain, a lump, nipple change or discharge, explained in plain language, including what is common and what needs further tests.
A hands-on examination
A surgeon’s examination of both breasts and armpits is still the foundation of breast assessment, and it often gives reassurance on its own.
Your personal risk
Your family history and risk factors turned into practical advice, including whether you need extra checks.
A surveillance plan
What to check, how often, and with which test, written down so you know what to expect.
Imaging and onward care arranged
An ultrasound with a breast radiology doctor, a mammogram at King Edward VII’s Hospital, an MRI or a biopsy can all be arranged for you, often the same day. Your care can continue with the same surgeon.
What it can’t do
A consultation complements screening. It does not replace mammograms at the ages they are recommended, and an examination alone cannot show everything. If imaging is needed, your surgeon will say so and explain why.
Choosing your appointment
Both are private, with no GP referral. Choose the consultation if you want to talk it through and be examined first. Choose the one-stop breast clinic if you want an examination, an ultrasound and a plan in a single visit.

It is a one-to-one appointment with a consultant breast surgeon to talk through a symptom, a worry, your family history or a screening result. It includes a review of your history, a clinical examination of both breasts and armpits, and clear advice on next steps, with imaging arranged where it would help.
A consultant breast surgeon, always. If an ultrasound is needed, it is performed by a consultant breast radiology doctor, and you then return to your surgeon to discuss the result.
You talk through your symptoms and history, are examined in private (a chaperone is offered), and then discuss the findings and a plan with your surgeon. If imaging would help, it is arranged, often the same day. A written summary is on your secure portal, usually the same day.
Your surgeon looks at and feels both breasts and the lymph nodes in your armpits and neck, explaining what they are checking as they go. It should not be painful, and you can ask them to pause at any time.
A breast surgeon is a doctor who specialises in diagnosing and treating breast conditions. They assess symptoms, examine you, decide which tests you need, explain the results and advise on treatment if it is required.
If you notice a change in your breast, such as a lump, thickening, nipple change, discharge, skin change or persistent pain, or if you have a strong family history or a screening result you do not understand. Please do not wait: the sooner a change is checked, the sooner you have an answer.
Do not panic: most breast lumps turn out to be harmless, but every new lump should be checked promptly. You can book a private breast surgeon consultation directly, often within a day, with no GP referral. You can also see your GP at any time.
Choose the consultation if you want to talk it through and be examined first, for example with breast pain, a family history or a screening result. Choose the private one-stop breast clinic if you have a lump or change and want an examination, an ultrasound and a plan in one visit.

The consultation takes about 30 minutes. If an ultrasound is arranged the same day, allow extra time.
One fixed price of £350, which covers your consultation and examination, your plan, a written summary and portal access. An ultrasound, mammogram or biopsy, if needed, is priced separately.

I have left feeling real peace of mind that I am in good health with no concerns. The doctors and all the team were very friendly and professional and the process of getting results is really good. Thank you”
