You are seen by senior consultants, not trainees. A breast surgeon examines you and advises on any treatment. A breast radiology doctor, a specialist doctor who performs and interprets your scan, scans you. They work together, and many also work in NHS breast units, including at UCLH. All our doctors are GMC-registered.

Great Portland Street (Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan) is a 7-minute walk via Weymouth Street. Regent’s Park (Bakerloo) about 8 minutes, Baker Street (five lines) 9, Oxford Circus (Victoria, Central, Bakerloo) 11, and Bond Street (Elizabeth line) 12.

By rail

Paddington: two Circle or Hammersmith & City stops to Great Portland Street, about 15 minutes door to door. Marylebone: a 12-minute walk or a 3-minute cab.

By car or taxi

Ask for 99 Harley Street at the Weymouth Street corner. The Q-Park Harley Street car park is a few minutes’ walk away, with pay-by-phone bays on Weymouth Street, New Cavendish Street and the surrounding mews. The clinic sits inside the weekday Congestion Charge zone.

On foot

What is a private breast clinic?

A private breast clinic is a clinic where you can see breast specialists without a GP referral or an NHS waiting list. At our private breast clinic on Harley Street you can see a consultant breast surgeon, have an ultrasound with a consultant breast radiology doctor, and have your results explained before you leave. It suits anyone with a lump or change, breast pain, a family history, a screening result they want explained, or who simply wants a proper check.

Which breast appointment should I book?

If you have found a lump or change and want an examination, a scan and a plan in one visit, book the private one-stop breast clinic. If your GP has advised a scan, or you are under 40 or have dense breasts, book a breast ultrasound. If you want to talk to a surgeon first, for example about breast pain, a family history or a result, book a breast surgeon consultation. Not sure? Call us and a clinician will advise.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book any of our appointments directly, online or by phone. If you are using private medical insurance, bring your authorisation number. We can send your report to your GP if you would like.

Do I need to see a breast surgeon?

Not necessarily. If you know you want a scan, you can book a breast ultrasound directly. If your scan shows something that needs further tests or treatment, we arrange it, and your care can continue with our consultant breast surgeons. You can also book a breast surgeon consultation or the one-stop clinic if you would like a surgeon’s examination and advice.

What is a one-stop breast clinic?

It is a clinic where the examination, imaging and discussion of results happen in one visit rather than across several appointments. At Harley Street, a consultant breast surgeon examines you, a consultant breast radiology doctor scans you, and you return to your surgeon to agree a plan before you leave.

How much does a private breast appointment cost?

Every appointment has one fixed price: £590 for the one-stop breast clinic, £350 for a breast surgeon consultation, a breast ultrasound or a breast implant check, and £260 for an armpit ultrasound. A mammogram or biopsy, if needed, is priced separately. Most major private insurers are accepted.

Will I get my results on the same day?

Usually, yes. If you have a scan, your radiology doctor explains what they see as it happens, and your written report and images are on your secure portal, usually the same day. If a biopsy is taken, laboratory results take longer, and we tell you when to expect them.

Can I have a biopsy at the same appointment?

Often, yes. If a biopsy is advised, an ultrasound-guided needle biopsy can often be done at Harley Street on the same day, usually with a local anaesthetic. It is priced separately.

Can I have a mammogram?

We do not offer mammograms at our clinic yet. If your age or findings mean a mammogram would help, your doctor will advise and arrange it at King Edward VII’s Hospital, often on the same day. It is priced separately.

Breast ultrasound or mammogram: which do I need?

It depends on your age, breast density and symptoms. Ultrasound is usually the first-choice scan under 40 and works well through dense tissue. A mammogram is better at showing some early changes, such as tiny calcium deposits, and is usually added for women over 40 or when an ultrasound needs more detail. Your doctor will advise on the day.

What happens if something is found?

Your doctor explains what has been found in plain language and agrees a plan with you. If further tests or treatment are needed, we arrange them and write to your GP. Your care can continue with our consultant breast surgeons if you wish.

How long does a breast appointment take?

Allow 30 minutes for a breast surgeon consultation or a breast ultrasound, and around 40 minutes for the one-stop breast clinic.

Is a chaperone available?

Yes. A chaperone is always offered for any examination or scan, and a gown is provided.

Can men use the breast clinic?

Yes. Men can notice breast changes too and are welcome to book any of our appointments.

Where can I get a breast scan near me in London?

Can I still use the NHS afterwards?

Yes. Coming to us privately does not affect your NHS care. If anything needs urgent attention, your doctor writes to your GP recommending an urgent referral, so you re-enter the NHS pathway with your findings already in hand.
